Northampton captures 10-11 Little League crown

The Northampton 10-11-year-old Little League squad edged Westfield, 3-2, Saturday to win the District 2 Championship at Cross Street Playground in Westfield.

Hamp advanced to the double-elimination Massachusetts Sectionals where it will host the winner of Friday’s game between Worcester and Pittsfield, Saturday at 11 a.m. at McDonald Field.

Ryan Kirkendall and Caleb Steiniger each had two hits for Hamp, while Marty Maslowski struck out nine in five innings to earn the win.

Intermediate Little League

Easthampton 16, Auburn 3 — Easthampton took a one-game lead in it’s best of three series Saturday. It will face Auburn again Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Sheehan Field.

The series winner will advance to the state championship.

Ryan O’Leary had three hits including a home run and three RBIs to lead Easthampton.

Mickey Mantle

Northampton 12, Westfield 5 — Jamie Berrios had two hits and two RBIs, while Jack Diggins had two hits and scored twice for Northampton Saturday.

Northampton 6, Dalton 1 — Hamp scored four times in the sixth to make a close game comfortable and complete it’s two-win weekend.

Jake Matakanski had a triple and drove in a run for Hamp. Patrick Serio earned the win allowing three hits, two walks and no earned runs while striking out six.
