Clearing forests for solar farms ecological mistake

I appreciate that a letter writer (“Baffled by opposition to solar project,” May 8) is passionately concerned for the Earth and recognizes the sacrifices we need to make to stop the worst effects of climate change.

But clearing 30 acres of forest will cause more ecological harm than good. The trees are already collecting solar energy. They are also storing carbon, cleaning the air, preventing erosion, providing wildlife habitat and filtering groundwater.

Whether or not you believe that there are native and prehistoric remains and whether you are willing to sacrifice them, sacrificing 30 acres of town forest will increase climate change, not lessen it.

Clearing forests for solar farms is a huge ecological mistake.
