It’s been a wild ride for Northampton native Jarrod Neumann.

The former high school basketball standout turned Providence lacrosse star saw his collegiate career end with being named Big East Defensive Player of the Year and Inside Lacrosse Third-Team All-American.

Last week, he was named USILA/Nike Second-Team All-American.

On Sunday, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Neumann was the seventh pick in the third round of the Major League Lacrosse Draft.

The Florida Launch selected Neumann with the 25th overall selection. The Launch visit the New York Lizards on Friday. They host the Lizards on June 10.

Neumann’s senior season for the Friars was just his sixth year of lacrosse.

As a junior at Northampton, Neumann helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2011 Western Massachusetts Division 1 Boys Basketball Tournament championship.

It was during his senior year when Neumann decided to play lacrosse.

He then took a post-graduate year at Bridgton Academy before heading to Providence.

Neumann, who graduated from Providence on May 21, finished his final season with two goals and one assist. He collected 27 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers. Neumann earned NEILA All-New England First-Team honors. He also earned All-Big East First-Team recognition and Big East All-Tournament Team.

Neumann played for the Division I/II North Team in the 76th Annual USILA/Nike North-South All-Star Game, Friday, at Providence.

Neumann and All-American goalie Tate Boyce anchored the Friars’ defense that ranked 10th in the NCAA in scoring defense (8.35) and 13th in the nation in man-down defense (.742).

The pair led the Friars to a second-consecutive conference tournament appearance and helped the Friars reach the conference championship game for the first time in program history.

They also played a role in helping Providence make its first-ever appearance in the national rankings.
