Tax break would not aid most alcohol producers

Thank you for your story regarding the tax break for beer manufacturers contained in the proposed Senate tax bill (“Tax bill’s boost for breweries,” Nov. 21).

Unfortunately, the story neglected to point out that small distilleries, wineries and breweries would benefit very little from the proposed bill because of the nature of the federal excise tax structure. About seven large breweries would benefit from the lion’s share of the tax reduction for breweries.

We would gladly give up our tax break to see more features in the bill that benefit the hungry, the homeless and others who lack the dollars needed to influence the heartless and all too-powerful Washington politicians.
