Friday’s HS softball: Anna Kerwood lifts Northampton with walk-off on 18th birthday

Anna Kerwood started her own party Friday.

The Northampton senior hit a walk-off double on her 18th birthday as the Blue Devils beat Minnechaug, 6-5, in Northampton.

The Blue Devils (11-2) led 5-1 entering the sixth, but the Falcons scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the game at 5-all.

Emma Tanner walked and stole second before Kerwood’s hit delivered a win and handed the Falcons (10-1) their first loss.

Tanner (three runs) and Kerwood (two RBIs) each had two hits. Emilia Pelis had a hit and two RBIs.

Kerwood struck out three, walked two and allowed four earned runs on seventh hits for the win.

Frontier Regional 5, Athol 1 — Lauren MacDonald struck out 11 and walked two as the Red Hawks (8-6, 4-3 Franklin) won on the road.

Kenzie Patterson had four hits, while Natalie Denkiewicz had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs.

Gateway Regional 16, Commerce 3 (5) — Audrey Gamble struck out nine, walked three and allowed two hits over five innings as the Gators (10-4, 10-0 Tri-County) qualified for the postseason with the win at home.

Ali Manos (triple) went 3-for-5 with a two-run game-ending single. Steph Paiva added a solo homer in the eight-run fifth.

Ava Auclair and Lily Waters each doubled, while Makala Gogal had four RBIs.

Greenfield 16, Amherst Regional 1 (5) — Adele Cousland tripled home Grace Johnson in the fourth, but the Hurricanes (0-10) fell at home.

Ware 19, Granby 12 — After the Rams scored six times to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, the Indians answered with seven in the eighth to keep Granby winless (0-10).

Emily Sawyer had three hits, including a triple, an RBI and scored three runs for the Rams, while Kayla McCreary had two hits, a run and an RBI.

Belle Lanou had her first two varsity hits, a single and a triple. She scored two and drove in a run.

Holyoke 6, South Hadley 5 — Abby Edge (two runs) doubled twice, while Mikhaila Edge (double, two RBIs) and Brooke Conner also had two hits apiece, but the Tigers (3-9, 1-5 Suburban) fell on the road.

Maddie Fontaine (hit) had two runs and two RBIs.
