To the editor:

Don Berwick’s qualifications for governor are the strongest we have seen in years and are uniquely suited to our needs right now. While trained as a pediatrician, Dr. Berwick also holds an advanced degree in public policy. He can both attend to the needs of individuals and lead complex organizations. As the founder of the nonprofit Institute for Healthcare Improvement he has worked with over 90 percent of the hospitals in America to reduce medical mistakes and improve patient care, saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

As the national executive director of Medicare and Medicaid he ran an organization of 5,500 employees with a budget larger than the Pentagon’s.

Dr. Berwick is not a politician; he is a visionary leader who knows how to work with people in large, complex organizations to accomplish high-priority goals. He will create Medicare for All in Massachusetts and will save millions of dollars in doing so. He will bring together the most effective people to tackle education, energy policy, and poverty. He is beholden to no one and he knows how to get the job done. Please join me in voting for Don Berwick for governor Sept. 9.
