PELHAM — A Templeton woman was killed Thursday night when the car in which she was a passenger went off Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202) and over an embankment, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
Theresa Brooks, 83, was one of two passengers in a car driven by Keith Boudreau, 54, of Gardner, said Mary Carey, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.
Boudreau was driving northbound in a legal passing zone when he attempted to pass a Hyundai driven by a 20-year-old Raynham man, Carey said.
The Hyundai made a sudden turn into the passing vehicle, and Boudreau lost control, sending his car over a guardrail and down an embankment near Shutesbury Road, Carey said.
Brooks, Boudreau and the second passenger, who was not identified by authorities, were all taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, and the Hyundai driver was not injured.
Pelham Police and Massachusetts State Police from the Belchertown barracks, along with the Northwestern District Attorney’s office and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, responded to the accident. The crash remains under investigation, Carey said.
