HADLEY — Two men attempting to break into a vacant house on Route 9 allegedly had stolen copper in their possession and were arrested Friday, police said.

Peter A. Vogel, 24, of Springfield, and Mark A. Morin, 21, of Chicopee, were arrested at 11:22 a.m. on charges of breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony and larceny under $250, said Officer David Isakson. Morin also was arrested on a charge of possession of burglary tools, Isakson said.

As officers attempted to arrest both men in custody, Vogel tried to flee, police said. That led to additional charges against him of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, Isakson said.

Police were called after a witness saw the men trying to get into the vacant house, Isakson said While they did not succeed, when police arrived they found the men had copper wire and pipes they allegedly stole from a nearby building, Isakson said.
