Youth programs available at Hamp Recreation
Registrations are now being accepted for the Northampton Recreation Department’s field hockey program.
This competitive program has a Senior team (seventh and eighth grade) and a Junior team (fifth and sixth). The program begins mid-August and runs until November.
Games are mostly played on Saturday mornings, with one-to-two weekday practices at Northampton High School and away games at local area towns. Priority registration for residents of Northampton until Aug. 9.
Registrations for the department’s flag football program for children in grades 1-4, held on Saturdays from Sept. 6 through Oct. 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at JFK Middle School are also being accepted.
The department also has openings in its youth soccer program for kids ages 4 and 5, and kids in first and second grade. The seven-week program takes place on Saturday mornings from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25 at Look Park.

Hamp Little League hosting golf tournament
Northampton Little League will host its third annual Northampton Little League Golf Tournament on Sept. 13 at Pine Grove Golf Course.
Registrations are being accepted for four-person teams and individual players. Entry fee is $300 for a team, or $75 per individual. Fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart, snacks and a steak dinner. Prizes will be awarded.

Proceeds will help support baseball and softball activities for boys and girls in the greater Northampton area.
Field hockey clinic held in South Deerfield
The Union 38 Field Hockey Summer Clinic, held Aug. 6-7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Field in South Deerfield is an introductory program for girls in grades 3-6 from Deerfield, Whately, Sunderland and Conway.
Frontier Regional varsity coach Missy Mahar will conduct a two-day clinic that focuses on skill development.
Registration fee is $5. Equipment deposit is $50.

Northampton High School fall sports registration is available online at northamptonk12.us.
Registration should be completed by Aug. 15.
Montague Mug Race approaching
The 34th annual Montague Mug Race will be held Aug. 16.
The 5.5-mile race starts at 8:30 a.m. from the Village Common at 4 North Street. The 2-mile Mini Mug race will start at 8:35 a.m.

Northampton Community Rowing takes three golds
The Northampton Community Rowing Masters Women’s team won three gold medals at the Methuen City Sprints Regatta on the Merrimack River on July 26.
The team entered one boat in the Masters Women’s 8+ and two boats in the Masters Women’s 4+.
The Regatta marked the debut of the club’s newest boat, Brenda’s Passion. The Vespoli shell is named after Brenda Wolfe, a former teammate who died unexpectedly while traveling in India in 2012.
Competing for Northampton were: Dorrie Brooks-Kahn, Gloria DiFulvio, Sally Linowski, Em Bhoo, Carol MacColl, Nora Blake, Jamie Caron, Cheryl Cardinal, Linda Hannum and Emily Crain.
