Northampton native Kurt Adametz returns to western Massachusetts as a dancer with LehrerDance, a professional company from Buffalo, New York, which will perform July 23 at 6:15 p.m. at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Becket. The performance is part of the festival’s Inside/Out Performance Series.
Under the direction of Jon Lehrer, LehrerDance fuses modern and jazz dance to create an energetic and athletic style of movement, according to the company’s website. Adametz is also the rehearsal director for the eight-member troupe.
Adametz began his dance training at the Hackworth School of Performing Arts in Easthampton. While a student there, he traveled to Europe twice as a member of the United States Tap and Jazz teams, winning two gold medals and the title of Junior Male World Tap and Jazz Champion (Slovenia, 2001), and a gold medal and title of Male World Tap Champion (Germany, 2002).
He received a bachelor’s degree in 2008 in Hispanic studies from Wheaton College in Norton. During college, he continued his dance training in intensives at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
After graduating, Adametz received a full scholarship to study at the Giordano Dance School in Chicago, and danced for one season with Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago II, and as a principal dancer for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. This is his fifth season with LehrerDance.
The free outdoor Inside/Out performance at Jacob’s Pillow will be presented on the Henry J. Leir Stage at the Marcia and Seymour Simon Performance Space.
