Three pitchers combined on a 2-hitter as the Northampton Cal Ripken 9-and-under team began the state tournament with a 10-3 victory over Marlboro Friday afternoon in Westminster.
Otis Follet (three innings, five strikeouts), Dominic Badorini (two innings, three Ks) and Hudson Fulcher-Melendy (inning, two Ks) teamed up for 10 strikeouts.
Badorini led Hamp (1-0) with two hits and scored a run. Brady McDonald and Follet each scored a pair of runs.
Northampton 7, Holyoke 0 — Winning pitcher Garrett Connly allowed just one hit and struck out five in four innings, and also had two hits with a run scored as Hamp (13-5) won on the road.
Adam Fishman (two innings, K) and Hector DeJesus (one inning, K) completed the shutout.
Beau Garbarini singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored another in the win, while DeJesus added an RBI hit.
Mohawk 5, Amherst 1 — Alex Cantor (two hits) had an RBI double to score Seth Bella-Hunter with the game’s first run, but Amherst (6-12) was blanked the rest of the way at home.
Trevor Edwards had two hits, while Bella-Hunter and Will Budington added one each.
Stephen McCudden allowed just one earned run over 51/3 innings in the loss.
Easthampton Savings Bank 2, Dream Bats 0 — Chris Starcun’s solo homer in the fourth inning was the only support Billy O’Neil needed in a complete-game 1-hitter for ESB (12-7-1).
Brandon Kubic knocked in Anthony Nomakeo on a sacrifice fly to provide an insurance tally for O’Neil, who fanned five.
