Local baseball & softball: Caelin Mottor keeps Easthampton Metro undefeated

Caelin Mottor used her arm and bat to ensure the Easthampton Metro Softball team remained perfect Tuesday evening.

Mottor fired a 6-hitter with five strikeouts, and went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored as Easthampton (15-0) defeated Springfield 9-2 at home.

Gabby Downer (two runs, RBI), Ashley Walch (three runs, RBI) and Niki Lewandowski (two RBIs, run) each had two hits for Easthampton.

District 2/3 Playoffs (Round 2)

Longmeadow 3, South Hadley Pettengill Insurance 1 — Trailing 3-0 when play was suspended after four innings Monday evening, Post 260 (8-12) got a run back but fell short as its season ended on the road.

Adam Pilachowski’s single drove in Alex Ziomek (bunt single) in the fifth, but South Hadley could get no closer.

Scott Bicknell added a double and Joe Ciolek a single.

Pilachowski allowed just two hits with five strikeouts in the loss. He pitched the first four innings Monday.

Endy Sanchez took over Tuesday and threw two hitless innings of relief and fanned three.
