Local baseball: South Hadley Sandy Koufax wins Division B title

The South Hadley Sandy Koufax team run-ruled Ludlow for the NEYSA Division B title on Tuesday, 16-5, in five innings.

The Tigers scored six runs in the first and eight in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Jarrett Sudyka had RBI triple in the first, and Drew Foley and Garret Giustina each added a two-run double to break the game open early.

Evan Levrault had an RBI single in the second and fourth as he went 3 for 3 and earned the win on the mound. He struck out 9 and allowed four runs on two hits and nine walks.

Giustina (3 RBIs) and Sudyka finished with two hits apiece in the win.

District 2/3 Playoffs

Northampton King & Cushman 9, Wilbraham 2; East Springfield 2, Northampton King & Cushman 0 — After extending its season by winning the suspended game over Wilbraham, Post 28 (7-13) was blanked in Round 2 at Forest Park to see the season come to an end.

Tim Horton, Mikey Thomson, Ben O’Connor and Sam Walker each had a single for Hamp, as Neil Begley threw a 4-hit shutout. Kevin Banas allowed just two runs on four hits over 42/3 innings in the loss.

In the win over Wilbraham, winning pitcher Mikey Thomson drove in three runs on a pair of hits and also scored twice. Ben O’Connor (two RBIs, run) and Keith Natale (two runs) each added two hits.

Mickey Mantle

Deerfield 3, Northampton 3 (9) — Northampton (11-5-1) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to tie, then the teams played two extra innings before the game was called due to darkness.

Garrett Connly (single), Adam Fishman (walk) and Beau Garbarini (single) loaded the bases for Hamp in the seventh. Cody Cleveland’s bunt single brought in Connly, then a throwing error on an attempted 5-2-3 double play plated Garbarini and Cleveland.

Jesse Carlino-Threlfall and Pat Grygorcewicz had two hits apiece.

Trevor Mankowsky (single, stolen base) scored a run in the third for Deerfield (15-1-1). Nate Patterson had an RBI single and scored in the sixth. Brian Shaw added a hit, stole a base and scored a run, while Seth Gewanter singled and doubled.

Patterson allowed eight hits and struck out nine over eight innings. Cody Cleveland (six innings, six hits, three Ks) and Connly (three innings, one hit) pitched well for Northampton.
