Local baseball: Northampton Cal Ripken 10U run ends in state championship

The teams combined for 27 runs and 23 hits, but when the dust settled, the run for the Northampton Cal Ripken 10U team ended one win short of the state title as Hamp fell to Groton, 15-12, Tuesday in Sutton.

Dallas Elliott completed his strong tournament effort with two doubles, a single, two runs and three RBIs. Will Sawyer added three hits and drove in a run, while Finn Meade had two hits and scored twice.

Assistant coach Sam Meade said the team might play in more tournaments later this summer.

American Legion

King & Cushman 13, Amherst 7 — Post 28 (6-10) had five players with multiple hits and RBIs in the road victory.

Keith Natale (double, three runs, two RBIs) and Christian Smiarowski (two doubles, three RBIs, two runs) each had three hits.

Mikey Thomson (three runs, two RBIs), Ben O’Connor (triple, two RBIs, run) and Tim Horton (two RBIs) added two hits apiece.

Tim Pruner (double, two RBIs, run) led Post 148 (7-8) with three hits, while Zach Kelley (run, RBI) and Brett Morrison (double, run, RBI) had two each.

Joe Warner earned the win with 32/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three.

Ludlow 12, Belchertown 8 (9) — Nick Kubacki paced Post 239 (4-12) by going 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in the extra-inning home loss.

Andrew Davidsohn and Nick Kurty also drove in a pair for Belchertown. Kurty’s two-run hit in the bottom of the seventh tied the game.

Mickey Mantle

Deerfield 11, Holyoke 3 — Nate Patterson went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple, scoring twice and driving in a run as Deerfield (13-1) cruised to a road win.

Brian Shaw singled and doubled with two runs and an RBI, while Trevor Mankowsky added two hits and two RBIs.

Noah Barnes struck out 12 in a complete-game 5-hitter.

Tri-County

Teddy Bear 5, Longmeadow 1 — Joey Larson worked around six hits and five walks to allow just one run and lead TBP past Longmeadown on the road.

Casey Blanchard had three hits and an RBI for Teddy Bear.
