NORTHAMPTON — A Florence man was hospitalized after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle turning in to a driveway Wednesday afternoon.

Christopher J. Kouniotis, 50, was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for face and arm injuries following the crash, according to police.

Information about his condition was not available from the hospital Thursday afternoon, and hospital staff declined to provide a status update Friday evening.

According to police, Kouniotis was cycling west on Chesterfield Road about 4:58 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Robert Ferris, 27, approached from the opposite direction and attempted to turn left into a driveway on Chesterfield Road, striking Kouniotis.

Ferris was cited for failure to use care in turning, according to police.
