The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.
A red crossbill was heard calling as it flew over New Salem.
A northern shoveler was seen flying low over Pittsfield.
A hooded warbler was found in Westfield.
An osprey was reported in Chicopee and a grasshopper sparrow was seen in Southwick.
Four common gallinules, including two young were reported at the Post Farm in Lenox.
Yellow-billed Cuckoos were seen in Pelham, Sheffield and Southwick.
Other notable nesting birds reported were great blue heron, green heron, red-shouldered hawk, broad-winged hawk, Virginia rail, American woodcock, black-billed cuckoo, willow flycatcher, prairie warbler and orchard oriole.
