My guilty pleasure this summer is the FX series “The Americans,” superbly acted by Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys (some of us fondly remember him from “Brothers and Sisters”) playing Soviet KGB officers posing as an all-American couple while they carry out their spy duties on U.S. soil. Set in the Cold War era of the 1980s, it offers an authentic feel for that decade in the dress, decor, cars, and topical events. It also features other heavy hitters like Richard Thomas and Margo Martindale. The show has logged two well-received seasons, but I’m late to the party, so binge-watching online.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
Outdoor concerts on summer nights are a Thursday staple in Florence with the down-home “Concerts on the Porch” series at the Florence Civic Center. The July 3 show, “Pop on the Lawn” with Rick Murnane, Gentle Hen and The Fawns, should be a good start to the holiday weekend. Blanket picnics invited. 6:30 to 8 p.m.
