Nothing but flowers: city police, state bomb squad respond to report of suspicious package Tuesday morning

NORTHAMPTON — A report of a suspicious package Tuesday morning drew responses from Northampton Police and the State Police bomb squad, who quickly determined there were only flowers inside.

According to Northampton Police Capt. Jody Kasper, about 7:50 a.m., police were notified of a suspicious package outside the entrance to the ServiceNet office at 50 Pleasant St.

Three city officers and members of the State Police bomb squad arrived and cut the package open about 8 a.m. and found there were only flowers inside.

The scene was cleared by 9 a.m., Kasper said.
