The fourth week of April was spring vacation for students in Hampshire County’s public schools. Among the options for kids were vacation camps offering activities ranging from recreation, to farming, to ballet.
Gazette photographers visited several of the week-long camps, where they found children exploring nature, learning to dance, taking care of animals, playing baseball, acting and generally having a good time.
The same seemed to be true for parents.
“He comes home raving about it,” said Kathy Foley, of Amherst, whose son, Tai Ly, 7, was at The Hartsbrook School Farm Camp in Hadley. “I like how tired he is at the end of the day, and I like that he spends all day outside.”
In addition to the farm camp, the photos on these pages were taken at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature camp in Easthampton, the Northampton Recreation Department’s baseball clinic, at Amherst Ballet, and at the Village Theatre Company’s sessions at Jones Library in Amherst.
