EASTHAMPTON — Police are investigating what they believe may have been a stabbing.

A man came to the Cooley Dickinson Hospital emergency room Monday with a leg injury that appeared to be a stab wound, which prompted the hospital to call the Northampton Police Department, said Northampton Police Capt. Jody Kasper.

The man told police he fell on something sharp by accident, Kasper said, and Northampton turned the investigation over to Easthampton Police when they found out he was injured in Easthampton.

Easthampton Police Sgt. Brian Ross said detectives from his department interviewed the man at 9 p.m. Monday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he had been taken to have his wound treated.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified, Ross said. He declined to release more details, including the name of the victim, because the incident remains under investigation.
