Weekend high school, prep recaps: Northampton baseball drops opener to Westfield

The Northampton baseball team opened its season with a 10-2 loss at Westfield Saturday.

Two players recorded their first varsity hit for the Blue Devils. Chris Soderberg went 2 for 4 with his first two hits, while Tom Horton had his first career hit.

Joe Warner and Andrew Serio each had a hit and an RBI, while Sam Santiago walked twice and scored twice.

Warner struck out six, walked two and allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks over 31/3 innings for the loss.

Prep schools

Williston 19, Gunnery 10 — Mikey Thomson (Northampton) went 3 for 5 with two runs and four RBIs, while Erik Ostberg (Florence) was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs as the Wildcats (1-0) won at home Saturday.

Boys Lacrosse

Williston 11, Gunnery 6 — Aidan Rai had five goals, while Ben Wheeler and Paul Accorsi each had two as the Wildcats won at home Saturday.

Girls Lacrosse

Willston 13, Wilbraham & Monson 0 — Meg Szawlowski (Northampton) had three goals and three assists, Grace Simpson (South Hadley) had three goal and one assist and Maddie Hatch added five goals and three assists as the Wildcats cruised on the road Saturday.

Boys golf

Westminster 204, Williston 218, Suffield 234 — Jacob Zaranek (South Deerfield) fired a 39 and Tyler Senecal (South Hadley) had a 42 as the Wildcats split at East Mountain Golf Course in Westfield Saturday.
