Suzanne Wilson’s Best Bets: Local actress on ‘House of Cards’; book discussion: ‘Richard II’

Count me among those dedicated fans who watched the entire second season of “House of Cards” within a few days of its release by Netflix last month. What I didn’t know at the time is that the actress playing the compelling, poignant Megan Hennessey — one of the few sympathetic figures in this saga of power and ambition in Washington D.C. — is Libby Woodbridge, who grew up in Amherst. Her performance is not to be missed.

“House of Cards” has been called Shakespearean, though that might be a stretch. They’ll gather to ponder one of the Bard’s originals on March 16, at 11 a.m., at the Odyssey Bookshop, South Hadley, when scholar Arthur Kinney leads a discussion about “Richard II.” 534-7307.
