UMass baseball drops doubleheader at Richmond

The University of Massachusetts baseball team dropped its doubleheader at Richmond, losing 6-4 and 10-1 on Friday.

In the first game, Brandon Walsh went 4 for 5 with one RBI and Vinny Scifo finished 3 for 5 with one RBI to lead the Minutemen.

Conor LeBlanc took the loss. He struck out two and allowed five runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks.

In Game 2, Adam Picard drove in the Minutemen’s lone run in the sixth inning on a sac-fly.

The Spiders outhit UMass 15-3.

Ryan Moloney stuck out five but allowed five earned runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings to take the loss.

Amherst 3, Hamilton 1 (7 inn.); Amherst 9, Hamilton 2 — The Lord Jeffs swept the doubleheader in New York. Taiki Kasuga combined for four hits in the two wins.


Amherst 8, Wesleyan 3 — The Lord Jeffs pushed their winning streak to four games as Donna Leet went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Sarah McKay went 2 for 2 with two runs scored in the win.

Women’s tennis

Smith College 5, Colby-Sawyer 4 — Margaret Anne Smith won the deciding match at NO. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2 to left the Pioneers to the home win.

Women’s lacrosse

Babson 17, Mount Holyoke 8 — Liz Randolph scored three goals while Julia Bell added two in the Lyons loss.


Belchertown falls in volleyball opener

Agawam 3, Belchertown 0 — The Orioles’ dropped their season opener at home in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-15) despite seven assists from Brandan Ryan.

Colter Krzcuik and Jordan Vizenault each had three kills and two blocks in the loss.

Agwama’s Bailey Cecchi had 10 kills while Zach Gorggin had 20 assists.
