AMHERST — An Amherst woman who allegedly stole her father’s vehicle and broke into her mother’s home was arrested Tuesday in Holyoke, police said.
Sarah Louise Chesner-Grant, 22, of 19 Summer St., was arrested by state police at Northampton Street and Woods Avenue in Holyoke at 9:50 p.m. on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possessing a class A drug (heroin) and possessing a class E drug (multiple white pills), state police said.
Chesner-Grant’s passenger, Joshua Andrew Tanner, 31, of Holyoke, was arrested at the same time on charges of possessing a class A drug (heroin) and possessing a class E drug (multiple white pills), state police said.
Amherst Police Detective David Foster said the incidents began around 5:12 p.m., when police took a report that a home on Valley View Circle had been broken into and an unspecified amount of jewelry stolen. At 5:52 p.m., police got a report that a 2003 Honda Civic was taken from Summer Street, at which time the department issued a “be on the lookout” alert.
Around four hours later, a state trooper spotted the vehicle on Interstate 91. The trooper stopped the vehicle and the arrests were made following a search of the vehicle, state police said.
Foster said Amherst police are continuing to investigate the incidents.
