High school weekend recaps: Weir wrestles to third, Lachowicz fifth at New Englands

Hampshire Regional High School wrestling teammates Brendan Weir (132) and John Lachowicz (285) finished third and fifth, respectively, at the 50th annual New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships held Friday and Saturday at Providence Career and Technical Center in Providence, R.I.

Weir was awarded third place in the 132 weight class after winning the consolation match against Emmett LiCastri from Joan Barlow High, Conn., in a 5-4 decision. Weir was beaten by Derek Bohle, of Timberlane, N.H., 6-4 in the semifinals to be knocked out title contention.

In his weight class of 285, Lachowicz placed fifth when he defeated Owen Murray, of Marstons Mills, in a 9-4 decision. Lachowicz lost to Austin Shrewsbury, of Westfield, in an 8-2 decision before winning the consolation contest.
