Katia Torres joins city elder law firm

NORTHAMPTON — Katia Torres has joined the elder law firm of attorney Michael Hooker. Torres has 15 years of experience as a legal secretary and paralegal working for two large law firms. Her primary focus will be in Estate Planning, guardianships and conservatorships. Torres is fluent in Spanish.

Gomez honored by restaurant chain

SOUTH HADLEY — McDonald’s Corp. has recognized Jorge Gomez of South Hadley, owner and operator of 14 McDonald’s restaurants throughout western Massachusetts and Connecticut, with the 2013 Ronald Award for the Boston region, which includes all of New England and Albany, N.Y.

The Ronald Award is presented to an owner/operator who has made outstanding contributions to the McDonald’s brand, their local community and their customers.

Gomez is on the national board of directors of the McDonald’s Hispanic Operators Association, the largest Hispanic franchisee organization in the country. He also serves on the Ronald McDonald House Charities Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources scholarship committee.

IT firm temporarily leaves Hadley

HADLEY — After eight years at its Route 9 headquarters, Paragus will be moving to a new commercial office building in Hadley later this year. The new space is 8,000 square feet, nearly four times the size of their former location. The entire Paragus staff is currently operating out of an office in downtown Springfield while construction on the new facility is completed.
