John F. Kennedy Middle School in Florence started spring break on Feb. 15 with an afternoon of activities for children and their families.
The event was sponsored and led by the Northampton Recreation Department.
Tom Ricardi, a former game warden who runs the Massachusetts Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Facility in Conway, gave a presentation featuring seven live birds, including owls, falcons, hawks and a vulture. He shared information about each kind of bird with his audience and let some of them perch on a willing child’s arm.
Other activities included ice cream bingo and swimming in the school’s pool, which was open for its regularly scheduled hours.
