To the editor:
I suppose it’s a good thing that Mark Whipple is the new football coach at UMass. It’s unfortunate that at his introductory (re-introductory?) press conference he indicated that getting “jewelry” (championship rings) will be his main focus.
In his words, jewelry “is what it’s about.”
What a shame that striving for excellence, the teaching of life lessons and the expectation of exemplary conduct of players both on and off the field seemingly take a back seat to bling.
