EASTHAMPTON — A 23-year-old city man is being held on $10,000 bail on charges including attempted murder after he allegedly choked his girlfriend until a friend intervened.
Adam A. Medeiros of 8 Irving St. was arrested at 6:58 a.m. Monday at an apartment building at 13 Northampton St. on charges of attempted murder, assault and battery and threatening to commit a crime (murder).
Police Capt. Robert Alberti said the incident that led to the arrest occurred overnight. Medeiros and his “on-again-off-again” girlfriend, who is also the mother of his baby, started arguing at a house party at 177 Ferry St., Alberti said. Medeiros left and went to his friend’s Northampton Street apartment and the alleged victim followed him there.
Alberti said she told police that when she arrived he threatened to “hurt her so bad” if she said anything else to him. He then knocked her down and choked her while saying he was going to kill her. She reported that he choked her until she could not breathe and she was unsure if she lost consciousness.
Alberti said someone who lived in the apartment intervened to stop the alleged attack. The alleged victim called a relative to come get her and reported the incident in the morning. She declined medical attention.
At some point during the night, Alberti said, Medeiros allegedly drove into the porch at the house at 177 Ferry St. and then drove away. No additional charges have been filed as a result of the accident, Alberti said.
According to his Facebook profile and Gazette archives, Medeiros attended Easthampton High School and Holyoke Community College.
