Lifetime Northampton resident Jack Fagan, known to many as “The Walker,” recently celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends. Several dozen people turned out for the celebration, including many whom Fagan met during his years of walking at Smith College, Childs Park, and along the Norwottuck Rail Trail.

The cake featured a New England Patriots gridiron, honoring Fagan’s assertion that he had successfully moved the chains through the Red Zone and crossed the 100-year goal line. How did he get there? Fagan cites a great family, great neighbors, a great location, and his motto: “Keep Moving!”

A family contingent hosted the celebration. Shown here from left to right are: Mark and Renee Ives; Lewis Ives; Tatiana Chaves; Fina and Lionel Ives; Sarah Ives; Jack Fagan; Donna Ives; Jack Fagan Jr.; Zinnia, Michelle, and John Fagan III; and Melinda Fagan.
