Friday morning crash kills 84-year-old Westfield man, hospitalizes another

NORTHAMPTON — A two-car crash at the intersection of North King and Elm streets claimed the life of one of the drivers and sent the other to the hospital.

According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, the deceased driver was an 84-year-old Westfield man, who was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center, where he was transported after the crash.

The male driver of the second vehicle was transported to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the district attorney’s office.

The district attorney’s office has not released the identity of either driver, and the condition of the survivor is unknown. There were no passengers in either car, according to the district attorney’s office.

The crash occurred about 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of North King and Elm streets.

The deceased driver’s vehicle was heavily damaged on the driver’s side, according to the district attorney’s office, and was struck there by the front end of the second driver’s pickup truck.

Requests for information about the accident from Northampton and state police were referred back to the district attorney’s office.

The accident remains under investigation by the Northampton Police Department and state police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office.
