AMHERST — A long-time catering business, which for nearly five years has included a retail store selling prepared dishes and other foods at 362 College St., ended its run Friday.
Kristine and Raphael Elison, who have operated Portabella Catering since 1995, decided to close both operations for what Kristine Elison describes as a mid-life change.
“We feel incredibly lucky that our business has been so successful,” said Elison. She noted that store sales have been growing and Portabella continues to have many regular catering clients.
The last catering event she handled took place at the president’s house at Amherst College Thursday.
Portabella specialized in homemade and all-natural food at its catered events, and the store had numerous prepared meals, soups and salads and desserts for sale. The store also featured local products, such as cheese, breads, salsa, milks, pickles and fermented teas, made throughout the Pioneer Valley.
Elison said she is grateful for the many loyal customers over the last two decades.
“In the end, I am excited to pursue other interests, and a few new business possibilities,” Elison said.
