Mike Wegzyn, once UMass' quarterback of the future, appears to be putting the Minutemen in his rearview mirror.
UMass sources confirmed a Maroon Musket report that Wegzyn and WR/TE Derek Beck are both expected to leave the program.
Wegzyn, UMass' starter for 11 games last year and the first two this year, was benched halfway through the Minutemen's loss to Maine.
Wegzyn's departure would leave A.J. Doyle as the program's only experienced quarterback. Wegzyn is a sophomore, but is on track to graduate in May. He could transfer to an FBS school without sitting out, but will likely explore FCS possibilities as well.
Wegzyn decline to comment on the situation.
Neither player has received their release from the school yet.
