Springfield police ID David Chicoine of Amherst, owner of Dave Chicoine Construction, as fatal stabbing victim

SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Springfield police have identified a 50-year-old Amherst man as the victim of a fatal weekend stabbing.

Police said Tuesday that David Chicoine, owner of Dave Chicoine Construction on Edge Hill Road, Amherst, was one of two men found stabbed at about 5 a.m. Sunday after reports of a fight in an apartment building parking lot in Springfield.

Chicoine was found in a pickup truck parked outside the Worthington Street building. He died at Baystate Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman who did not provide further information about his injuries.

Chicoine, a native of Southampton, is a 1981 graduate of Hampshire Regional High School, according to his Facebook profile. His company is described as a builder of single-family homes.

Chicoine’s mother, Ruth, and brother Thomas, both of Southampton, said police contacted them Sunday. They declined to comment further when reached by telephone Tuesday evening.

Police said a 39-year-old man found stabbed in the kitchen of an apartment in the building attached to the parking lot where Chicoine was found is now listed in good condition.

Police said they are continuing to investigate.
