Your Time Mayor Tautznik’s farewell, Easthampton

Last modified: Wednesday, February 19, 2014
Over 200 people came together at The Log Cabin in Holyoke on Dec. 12 to bid farewell to Michael Tautznik, who has been Easthampton’s one-and-only mayor since soon after the town became a city in 1996.

It was the eight-term mayor’s idea to throw the party as a way to thank those he has gotten to know through his 35 years in government.

The food, refreshments and conversation were put on hold as official recognitions and proclamations from Beacon Hill to Washington D.C., were read, including a video appearance by Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Tautznik also received some gentle ribbing in the form of a “fish ladder” to remember one project that is not quite finished.

Then, before music by Eva Cappelli and the Watershops Band could start up again, “Mayor Mike,” as he is known to many, had the last word: “Thank you again for coming. Thank you so very much for your support, for making our community, our region, what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. I love you all.”
