HATFIELD — A 31-year-old Hatfield man was taken into custody Sunday night after allegedly threatening a police officer with a rifle.

Todd Dostal, of 8 Circle Drive, was arrested about 6 p.m. on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, intimidation of a witness, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

According to state police, a Hatfield officer was dispatched to Dostal’s home at about 5:20 p.m. for a report of gunshots.

When officer Tiffany MacDougall arrived, Dostal came out of the house, pointed a rifle at her and told her to leave the property, and then went back inside.

MacDougall said Monday she was not at liberty to describe the type of weapon Dostal had.

The State Police Special Tactical and Operations (STOP) unit and a K9 unit were called to assist, according to state police.

About 40 minutes after the initial call, Dostal came out of the house unarmed and was taken into custody, police said.

According to state police, five firearms were recovered from his home — two pistols and three rifles.

Dostal is scheduled to be arraigned in Northampton District Court Tuesday, according to MacDougall.
