People involved in deadly Deerfield head-on collision ID'd

DEERFIELD —Law enforcement officials have identified the people involved in a fatal head-on collission on River Road Monday.

The two drivers in the deadly crash were Aaron W. Stark, 19, of South Deerfield, and Celia A. Allen, 83, of Montague, according to police and the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stark was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. said the accident occurred at 3:06 p.m., when a late model Chevrolet Impala driven by Stark and a Chevrolet Prizm driven by Allen collided head-on.

Paciorek said there were no passengers in either car.

River Road remained closed to through traffic late into the evening as local and state police investigated the crash, which occurred on a curve just south of 520 River Road about one-tenth of a mile south of Atlas Farm.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Deerfield Police Department and state police detectives attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office, Paciorek said.

The Deerfield Emergency Medical Services and the Deerfield and South Deerfield fire departments responded to the scene.
