Amherst softball advance to eight-team NCAA Division III national championship for first time ever

The Amherst College softball team made history Friday.

The Mammoths beat No. 18 Ramapo, 3-0, in Amherst to win an NCAA Division III Super Regional for the first time ever.

Amherst (33-10) advanced to the eight-team national championship at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Mammoths will await the winner of Trine University (Indiana) and the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. Games run May 25-30.

Gina Pagan (22-4) shut the door on the Roadrunners Friday. Pagan allowed one hit and struck out 11. She was named most outstanding pitcher for the Super Regional.

Lorena Ukanwa earned her fourth save of the season.

Lauren Tuiskula (RBI) was 2-for-3 and was named most outstanding player. Sammy Salustri and Alena Marovitz each had a hit and an RBI.
