Victor Cruz expected back at UMass for tonight's basketball game
Since winning the Super Bowl earlier this month, Victor Cruz has seemingly been everywhere.
The New York Giants wide receiver presented the best rock performance honor to the Foo Fighters at the Grammy Awards. He cut the ribbon to open Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and was honored at the Cartoon Network's Hall of Games. He was even offered a Valentine's Day date with Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Kate Upton.
Cruz, who's been with his girlfriend for nine years, turned down Upton and a chance to participate in "Dancing With the Stars," but he didn't turn down his alma mater. Cruz is expected to attend tonight's men's basketball game against Xavier at 7 at the Mullins Center where he will be honored, likely at halftime.
Cruz, 25, was a standout at UMass in 2008 and 2009, catching 131 passes for 1,958 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons. After going undrafted, Cruz made the Giants in 2010, but missed most of that season with an injury.
He had a breakout season in 2011 catching 82 passes for a Giants' single-season record 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns. His overnight success, good looks and trademark salsa dance made him immensely popular in New York City.
On Saturday, Cruz implied on Twitter that he planned to attend some UMass home game, but had not decided which one. He was reportedly getting on a red-eye flight from Los Angeles after the Cartoon Network event Monday night to fly back to Massachusetts.
