Amherst Police

# Byung W. Kim, 24, of Greenleaves Drive, Hadley, was arrested Feb. 11 at 1:20 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger and speeding, police said.

# Joshua S. McGuire, 33, of Ashfield was arrested Feb. 10 at 9:31 p.m. on Amity Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

# A 19-year-old Elmhurst, N.Y., woman and a 20-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on charges of shoplifting by concealment after they placed merchandise in their purses and tried to leave Big Y Supermarket without paying for the items Feb. 10 at 2:58 p.m., police said.

# Joseph M. Caponi, 32, of Granby was arrested Feb. 10 at 11:29 a.m. at a downtown home on charges of domestic assault and battery and assault and batteryand two counts of intimidating a witness, police said.

Caponi allegedly pushed a woman, shoved a girl as she tried to call for help and then made threats toward both people, police said,

# Catherine L. Labracio, 21, of Burlington, Vt., was arrested Feb. 10 at 1:20 a.m. on Triangle Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

# Carissa M. Jaillet, 22, of Newton was arrested Feb. 10 at 12:58 a.m. on Main Street on a charge of disorderly conduct after she got into a fistfight with another woman and refused to calm down, police said.

# Daniel A. Fish, 28, of Montague was arrested Feb. 7 at 7:49 p.m. on College Street on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon after he threw a can of Mountain Dew at a woman, police said.

# Peter Guillen, 20, of Roxbury was arrested Feb. 7 at 10:28 a.m. at Prescott House on the Hampshire College campus on a charge of domestic assault and battery after he grabbed another man by the neck, police said.

The victim sought his own medical attention for minor injuries, police said.

# A 25-year-old Belchertown woman will be summoned to court on a charge of receiving stolen property valued at more than $250 after she allegedly stole a vehicle that was recovered during the first week of February, police said.

Hadley Police

# Chen Fei, 36, of Elmhurst, N.Y., was arrested Feb. 9 at 6:08 p.m. on Lawrence Plain Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding, police said.

UMass Police

# Sandra K. Thomas, 19, of Squire Village, Sunderland, was arrested Feb. 5 at 2:29 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on an outstanding warrant, police said.

# Richard M. Green, 20, of Lowell was arrested Feb. 5 at 2:03 a.m. on University Drive on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

# 10 p.m. - A homeless man loitering on the porch of Iota Gamma Upsilon on North Pleasant Street was sent on his way.

DISTURBANCES

# 12:26 p.m. - Police kept the peace between sisters arguing at Mill Valley Estates.

LARCENY

# 12:04 p.m. - Police took a report from a resident at The Brook whose credit card was used to make unauthorized purchases on the Internet.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

# 12:05 a.m. - Police issued $300 tickets to two Colonial Village residents for holding a loud party where guests were singing and dancing, and tried to keep police officers from breaking up the party.

# 10:59 p.m. - Loud banging and thumping sounds coming from a Palley Village Place home were determined to be children running around unsupervised. Police spoke to the parents about the noise.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

# 9:34 a.m. - A stray dog on Tracy Circle was brought to the shelter.

# 1:19 p.m. - A poodle wandering around Sweetser Park was transported back to its owner.

TRAFFIC

# 5:01 a.m. - A decorative stone in the middle of a Main Street travel lane near Shumway Street was moved out of the roadway by police.

# 12:26 a.m. - A Dumpster on fire on Hobart Lane was extinguished by firefighters.

TUESDAY, FEB. 7

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

# 7:23 a.m. - A homeless man found near an ATM on North Pleasant Street was sent on his way.

# 8:10 a.m. - Police took a report about a suspicious man who had been at a school bus stop on Overlook Drive the previous day. The man allegedly stared at children but didn't approach them, according to police.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

# 2:16 a.m. - Police calmed down a distraught woman at Village Park who had recently had her dog euthanized.

DISTURBANCES

# 2:48 p.m. - A man who went into an Amherst business to confront his former girlfriend told police he was just venting his frustration. The woman may go to court to get a stay-away order.

# 8:56 p.m. - A homeless man and woman causing problems at a downtown restaurant were gone when police got there. The woman is expected to be issued a trespass notice.

LARCENY

# 12:53 p.m. - Theft of baby formula from Big Y Supermarket was reported to police after it was observed on a security tape.

BREAK-INS

# 2:03 p.m. - A vehicle parked at Riverside Park Shopping Plaza on Montague Road had a large overnight bag stolen from it the previous night. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 8

DISTURBANCES

# 1:32 a.m. - A man who threatened to assault people on Amity Street got into a vehicle and fled before police got there.

# 11:59 a.m. - Police were unable to locate a man who went into a downtown store and yelled at patrons and employees before fleeing. At 12:31 p.m., the man returned and was issued a trespass notice.

LARCENY

# 10:04 p.m. - A Village Park resident reported a past acquaintance used a credit card to make purchases illegally. The credit card company is investigating the matter, police said.

FIGHTS

# 2:51 a.m. - Two men fighting in the laundry room at Southpoint Apartments told police they were practicing mixed martial arts.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

# 4:15 p.m. - A dog barking continuously for four hours was reported at a Tracy Circle home.

ACCIDENTS

# 12:52 p.m. - A vehicle parked on Lessey Street sustained minor damage when it was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, police said.

THURSDAY, FEB. 9

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

# 10:17 a.m. - Management at a South Amherst business reported concerns about an employee who might retaliate after being terminated for stealing from the business.

# 1:12 p.m. - A man panhandling in the traffic island at the corner of University Drive and Northampton Road was sent on his way.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

# 12:14 a.m. and 12:44 a.m. - Police took two calls from a person who was upset with a downtown bar after a bouncer had removed him from the location earlier. The man was attempting to get the bar in trouble by telling police fights were taking place outside it and that underage people were being served inside it.

DISTURBANCES

# 11:58 p.m. - Police responded to residence at The Brook where screaming and yelling was taking place. Police kept the peace.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

# 6 p.m. - A loose dog was picked up on Alpine Drive and will be turned over to the animal welfare officer.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY

# 11:29 p.m. - Amherst police assisted UMass police with a car crash in which a vehicle went off Sunset Avenue into a dormitory. No personal injuries were reported at the scene.

FRIDAY, FEB. 10

DISTURBANCES

# 6:39 p.m. - Police kept the peace between Mill Hollow Apartments residents arguing over paper towels.

# 11:12 p.m. - A passenger on a PVTA bus who attempted to rip out the camera system was removed from the bus on North Pleasant Street near Eastman Lane. He could face criminal charges if the camera is determined to be damaged.

LARCENY

# 12:35 p.m. - A Logtown Road resident reported a former tenant stole figurines from a cabinet before she left the home. Police are investigating.

BREAK-INS

# 9:51 a.m. - Loose change was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a Dana Street garage.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

# 8:19 p.m. and 11:24 p.m. - Police issued verbal warnings to people talking loudly at Lincoln Avenue and Pelham Road homes.

# 9:45 p.m. - A verbal warning was issued by police to Puffton Village residents playing loud music.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

# 4:57 p.m. - A woman told police two dogs she was watching at a Mill Street home wandered off.

SATURDAY, FEB. 11

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

# 1:53 a.m. - College-age people urinating against the side of a Pray Street restaurant were warned about their activity and sent on their way.

DISTURBANCES

# 2:37 a.m. - People fighting inside a Fearing Street building had left the area before police got there.

LARCENY

# 3:33 a.m. - North Pleasant Street residents reported the theft of an iPhone from their home that was tracked to Brandywine Apartments. Police are investigating.

ASSAULTS

# 2:40 a.m. - A man told police he suffered a head injury when attacked from behind while leaving a downtown bar. Police are investigating.

# 11:43 p.m. - Police took a report from a man at a University Drive restaurant who claims he was punched by another man who stole his car keys and then ran off. Police are investigating.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

# 1:57 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Puffton Village residents who were yelling.

# 6:13 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. - Verbal warnings were issued by police to Puffton Village and East Pleasant Street residents playing loud music.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

# 2:07 p.m. - A rabid skunk on Station Road was destroyed by police.

SUNDAY, FEB. 12

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

# 2:56 a.m. - An intoxicated man sitting on a porch on Fearing Street was sent on his way.

DISTURBANCES

# 1:59 a.m. - A Puffton Village resident told police people were outside his apartment harassing him and breaking things. At 2:58 a.m., the vandals allegedly returned but again were not located by police.

# 5:04 p.m. - Two customers causing problems at a University Drive business where they have previously been suspected of shoplifting were issued trespass notices by store management.

VANDALISM

# 2:39 a.m. - Two men trying to pull a bumper off a vehicle at Puffton Village fled when police got there.

BREAK-INS

# 2:18 a.m. - Police took a report of a break-in to a Hobart Lane residence.

FIGHTS

# 2:50 a.m. - Police separated two men involved in a shoving match at Puffton Village.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

# 12:08 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Mill Valley Estates residents holding a loud party.

# 9:43 p.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Village Park residents watching a loud television.
