Amherst Police
# Ashley Cook, 21, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., was arrested Feb. 6 at 1:51 a.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with defective headlights and speeding, police said.
# John D. Ross, 21, of Wrentham was arrested Feb. 5 at 3:20 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no license in possession, operating a motor vehicle with malfunctioning headlights, failure to use care in turning and failure to wear a seat belt, police said.
# Lindsay B. Abbate, 47, of Shutesbury Road, Leverett, was arrested Feb. 4 at 2:50 a.m. on East Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, following another vehicle too closely and failure to dim headlights to oncoming traffic, police said.
# Kerri N. Derosa, 20, of Burlington was arrested Feb. 3 at 10:41 p.m. on Fearing Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no headlights and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.
# Christopher J. Urbas, 24, of Summer Street was arrested Feb. 3 at 3:51 a.m. on Meadow Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle struck a pole and rolled over, police said.
Urbas was not hurt in the accident, police said.
# Rene Rivas, 52, of Southpoint Apartments was arrested Feb. 2 at 7:58 p.m. at his home on a charge of rape following a report from a woman about an incident last weekend in Amherst, police said.
# Eric K. Brown, 21, of Norton was arrested Feb. 2 at 12:48 a.m. on Sunset Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop/yield, police said.
# Ignacio Pacheco, 18, of King Street, Pelham, was arrested Feb. 1 at 4:21 p.m. on Main Street on a default warrant from Eastern Hampshire District Court on a charge of larceny over $250, police said.
Pacheco was also arrested on a charge of possession of a class B substance after police found opium on him, police said.

# Thomas T. Slawski, 26, of Pomeroy Lane, Amherst, was arrested Jan. 29 at 1:38 a.m. at the corner of West Street and Route 9 on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle to endanger following a minor crash, police said.
# Lauren Reingold, 25, of South East Street, Amherst, was arrested Jan. 28 at 4:05 p.m. at Whole Foods Market at Mountain Farms Mall on a charge of shoplifting, police said.
UMass Police
# Sandra Kay Thomas, 19, of 23A Squire Village, Sunderland, was arrested Sunday at 2:29 a.m. on North Pleasant Street on an outstanding warrant, police said.
# Richard Michael Green, 20, of Lowell, was arrested Sunday at 2:03 a.m. on University Drive on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to stay within marked lanes, police said.
# Mark Julian Keiser, 18, of Brewster, N.Y., was arrested Saturday at 12:05 a.m. on the Academic Mall on charges of disorderly conduct, larceny under $250, malicious destruction of property under $250 and being a minor in possession of alcohol, police said.
# Colton T. Medeiros, 18, of Somerset, was arrested Feb. 3 at 1:50 a.m. on Massachusetts Avenue on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, being a minor in possession of alcohol, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to stay within marked lanes and operating a motor vehicle with a missing registration sticker, police said.
# Justin G. Pappas-Kirk, 19, of North Andover was arrested Feb. 3 at 8:34 p.m. at Dickinson dormitory on a charge of tagging property, police said.
# Amanda J. Miles, 19, of Framingham was arrested Feb. 1 at 4:46 p.m. at Patterson dormitory on three counts of possession with intent to distribute class B substances and three counts of possession of class B substances and on an outstanding warrant, police said.
# Richard P. Stoute, 37, who provided an address as the streets of Massachusetts, was arrested Jan. 31 at 9:46 a.m. at Dickinson Hall on a charge of trespassing, police said.
# Dennis Topakov, 18, of Dorchester and Paul F. May III, 19, of West Roxbury were arrested Jan. 29 at 3:31 a.m. on the basketball courts at Southwest on charges of disorderly conduct, police said.
A 19-year-old Boston man and an 18-year-old Boston man will be summoned to court on the same charge, police said.
# Tyler J. Besse, 19, of Pittsfield was arrested Jan. 29 at 2:31 a.m. on Sunset Avenue on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.
# Mario C. Goncalves, 19, of Yarmouthport was arrested Jan. 29 at 1 a.m. in Lot 32 W off Massachusetts Avenue on charges of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and larceny under $250, police said.

MONDAY, JAN. 30
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
# 8:46 p.m. - A man who entered a University Drive business and asked a woman if he could give her a foot massage left when she declined his advances, but remained outside the building, staring at her. Police provided the woman a courtesy escort back to her dormitory room. The man was not located.
# 9:08 p.m. - Police determined that a possible break-in to a Townehouse Apartments home in which electronics were stolen and a bedroom was trashed was a prank by the resident's friends.
DISTURBANCES
# 12:40 a.m. - Police kept the peace during a verbal altercation in which customers refused to pay a bill at a North Amherst business.
LARCENY
# 6:58 a.m. - Police took a report of an attempted fraud in which a Belchertown Road business received two checks written in excess of the requested payments. The sender asked that a portion of the excess money be returned at a later date.
# 8:32 a.m. - A clarinet valued at $630 was reported stolen from a student at the middle school.
# 10:53 a.m.- A North Pleasant Street resident reported the unauthorized use of a credit card to make purchases in China.
VANDALISM
# 5:51 p.m. - A vehicle parked on Northampton Road had its window smashed out, but nothing was stolen from inside it.
TUESDAY, JAN. 31
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
# 3:09 p.m. - A man driving a pickup truck who approached a girl on Leverett Road and asked if she wanted to purchase marijuana fled when she turned him down and ran toward her home.
MOTOR VEHICLE
ACCIDENTS
# 6 p.m. - A vehicle driven by Yael M. Ben-Chaim, 18, of Rolling Green Drive was traveling westbound on Belchertown Road when it struck a pothole, causing a passenger-side rear tire to blow out and the vehicle to veer into the eastbound lane where it collided head on with a vehicle driven by Catherine C. Mullaney, 20, of Worcester, police said.
Both Ben-Chaim and Mullaney suffered minor injuries and were transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment, police said.
The two vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene, according to police.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
# 6:57 a.m. - A man trespassing at the homeless shelter was removed.
# 10:34 a.m. - Administrators at Crocker Farm School reported a suspicious man was on school grounds asking to use an air pump for his soccer ball. Police determined the man violated a trespass notice, but he fled before he could be apprehended.
# 1:59 p.m. - A child was heard screaming on Old Farm Road near the pond. Police discovered no problems and determined that no one had fallen into the pond, as the ice was intact.
# 7:27 p.m. - Police were notified about a suspicious person taking photographs of people using a downtown ATM. Police determined the person had been hired by the bank to work on the machine and that the photographs were a necessary part of the work.
BREAK-INS
# 1:39 p.m. - Police received a report that a locked apartment was entered and items were rummaged through at Puffton Village the previous day. They are investigating the incident.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY
# 6:49 p.m. - Amherst police assisted Shutesbury police in searching for a vehicle that may have driven around the area of Atkins Reservoir. Shots were also reported fired in the area.
THURSDAY, FEB. 2
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
# 10:45 p.m. - A man sleeping on the floor inside a downtown ATM was awakened and sent on his way.
CITIZEN ASSISTANCE
# 5:12 p.m. - A woman in the lobby of Ann Whalen Apartments requesting that people sign a petition was advised to leave the area after she repeatedly yelled at people who refused to put their signatures on the form.
DISTURBANCES
# 1:07 a.m. - Police kept the peace between patrons at a downtown restaurant who were pushing and shoving as they waited in line for their food.
LARCENY
# 7:48 p.m. - A laptop was reported stolen from a backpack at the Newman Center.

# 12:25 p.m. - Police took a report from a woman who said her daughter's nose was broken after she was punched in the face several days earlier.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
# 12:10 a.m. - Five Belchertown teenagers skateboarding in the parking garage were warned about their activity and sent on their way.
# 10:50 p.m. - Police issued a warning to a person urinating on Fearing Street.

# 12:29 p.m. - A homeless man causing problems in the basement of the Jones Library was sent on his way.
LARCENY
# 12:52 p.m. - An iPhone valued at $250 was stolen from a high school student while she was in biology class two weeks earlier.
# 3:37 p.m. - Police received a report that two laptops were stolen from Sigma Phi Epsilon on Olympia Drive.
VANDALISM
# 12:22 a.m. - Three intoxicated men who tore down a mailbox and fence on Summer Street were located and told to repair the damage or face charges.

# 12:35 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Puffton Village residents holding a loud party.
# 2:13 a.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to two guests at the University Motor Lodge playing loud music.
# 10:55 a.m. - A man playing a steel drum in front of a Main Street restaurant was sent on his way.
# 10:21 p.m. - Police issued a verbal warning to Amity Street residents playing loud music and yelling.
MOTOR VEHICLE
ACCIDENTS
# 6:06 p.m. - Alyssa Tassan, no age or address available, was issued a citation for failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle she was driving on Northampton Road collided with a vehicle driven by Gary Blanchard, no age or address available, police said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, but no personal injuries were reported, police said.
TRAFFIC
# 1:15 a.m. - Drunken college-age people in the middle of Sunderland Road were advised to get out of the travel lanes for their own safety. At 1:36 a.m., police responded to the same area where bottles and trash were being thrown into the road and a magazine was set on fire. The people were advised to go home and that bus service had ended for the night.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY
# 1:26 a.m. - A Dumpster on Hobart Lane was set on fire, but the three men who lit it ran from the scene as police got there. The fire was extinguished by firefighters.

# 10:56 p.m. - Police kept the peace between a couple at Southpoint Apartments.
# 11:22 p.m. - A man who threw a chair against the outside of a Nutting Avenue home told police he was upset at the outcome of the Super Bowl.
LARCENY
# 11:19 p.m. - A license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Village Park.
VANDALISM
# 12:58 a.m. - A window, mirror and taillight were smashed on a vehicle parked on Triangle Street.
# 12:37 p.m. - A barn at a Belchertown Road property was damaged when someone tried to force their way into it.
NOISE COMPLAINTS
# 12:51 a.m., 1:10 a.m. and 2:17 a.m. - Police issued verbal warnings to Alpine Commons, Brandywine Apartments and Montague Road residents playing loud music. At the Montague Road site, several neighbors complained about debris left on their lawns and mailboxes either knocked over or stolen.
# 1:09 a.m. - Police issued a $300 ticket for violating the town's noise bylaw to a Glendale Road resident playing loud music.

# 1:54 a.m. - A 21-year-old Belmont man was issued a ticket for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license after the vehicle he was driving went off West Street into a guardrail, police said.
LARCENY
# 11:10 a.m. - Management at a College Street business reported the possible theft of the nightly deposit money. Police are investigating.
