Two charged in alleged Childs Park drug deal

NORTHAMPTON - Police arrested two men following an alleged drug deal in Child's Park on Friday after receiving a tip about activity scheduled to take place there that afternoon.

Police set up surveillance around the park, Detective Corey Robinson said. While the person identified in the tip did not appear, three other people who appeared to be involved in a drug transaction showed up, Robinson said.

Alan L. Turner, 20, of 44 Plain Road, Hatfield, was charged with three counts of distribution of a Class-B drug and a drug violation near a school. Childs Park is located across the street from Northampton High School.

Zane Linehand, 17, of 8 Gross Lane, Easthampton, was charged with three counts of possession of a Class-B drug. A plastic bag containing ecstasy, LSD and an unknown substance was found in Linehand's possession, police said.

- Timothy O'Rourke, 40, of 48 Hillcrest Park, South Hadley, was arrested at 5:56 p.m. Friday and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Police said O'Rourke was found unresponsive in a vehicle parked on King Street.

- Gerald J. Green, 49, of Holyoke, was arrested at 6:49 p.m. Friday and charged with attempting to commit a crime after allegedly trying to break into a house on Wright Avenue.

Police responding to the incident found Green on the screened-in porch behind the house. He reportedly told officers that he thought he was at his sister's house in Easthampton, police said.

Police also found Green had an outstanding warrant from Westfield District Court.
