AMHERST - Jeanne M. (Sweeney) Wadsworth, 83, died peacefully Jan. 31, 2012, surrounded by family.

She was born March 27, 1928, to Mary F. Dolan and John A. Sweeney.

A 60-year resident of Belchertown, Jeanne was a faithful communicant, Eucharistic minister, and lector at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belchertown, and was past president of its Women's Club. Additionally, Jeanne was an active and dedicated volunteer in her church and community. Her involvement included teaching CCD, being a Girl Scout Leader, working at the senior center, assisting with the school lunch program, cooking for Meals on Wheels, donating her time to numerous church fundraisers and providing private home care.

Her husband of 22 years, John Wadsworth, preceded her in death in 1970.

A devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her seven children and their families: Donna White of Zebulon, N.C., John A. Wadsworth of Escondido, Calif., Mary F. Hankinson of Leverett, Theresa Girardi of Sunderland, Elizabeth Haire of Springfield, Martha Wadsworth of Denver, Colo., and Joseph Wadsworth of Ludlow. She will be fondly remembered by her 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Beers and Story Funeral Home in Belchertown. A Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church in Belchertown. Friends may gather at the funeral home by 9:15 or meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
