SOUTHAMPTON - Mabel Beach Emerson, 91, of Southampton, died Saturday at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Northampton.

Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of Galen of Stockholm, N.Y., and Lillian (Keith) Beach of Holyoke. She lived for most of her life in Southampton, where she was a longtime member of the Southampton Historical Society and the Southampton Women's Club. She served as a library trustee, and sang in the Allegro Club and with the Greater Westfield Choral Association, with whom she toured twice in Europe.

Mabel's early employment at the Westfield Athenaeum Library was superseded by a position as office manager for Gamble Insurance in Westfield, where she remained until her retirement in 1986. Mabel was a member of the Westfield Advent Christian Church, where she attended regularly and served faithfully until Oct. 23, 2011. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, led mission meetings, was a deaconess and served as treasurer for 20 years.

Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Lester, in 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Beach Emerson of Southampton and Janet Emerson Maggs of Conway; a brother, David Beach of Newmarket, N.H.; a sister, Leona Hendrick of Southampton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Advent Christian Church, 11 Washington St., Westfield. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery in Southampton. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield, www.firtionadams.com.
