NORTHAMPTON - Edwin J. Anusiewicz, 89, of 49A Grant Ave., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility.

He was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Northampton, the son of the late Joseph and Stanislawa (Dobruch) Anusiewicz.

Ed attended Northampton schools and graduated from Northampton High School with the class of 1940. He went into the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving three years aboard the USS LST 506 during World War II. Ed participated in the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach in Normandy. Ed received the European African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with one star, the American Area medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged as a first class gunner's mate and returned home in 1946.

He worked for the Service Co. until 1949. He then started the Central Service Co., a full service sales and service company for appliances, and Commercial Refrigeration Co. on Lincoln Avenue here in the city. Ed operated this business for 35 years until his retirement.

Edwin was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, boating, hunting, scuba diving, polka music and dancing. He had a great interest in photography and aviation. Edwin earned his pilot's license and, with his son, Ronald, built a Cassutt Model IIIM racing sport plane. Ed was known as a jack-of-all-trades and "Mr. Fix-It." He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and was very devoted to his family.

Edwin leaves his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen (Besko) Anusiewicz; son Ronald and wife Renee, of Southampton, granddaughter Sara and great-granddaughter Madison; and son David and wife Natalie, of Spanish Fort, Ala., and grandchildren Emily, Colleen and Jacob. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Walter of Pennsylvania, and a sister, Jennie Mientka, passed away earlier.

Calling hours at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Czelusniak Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 99 King St., Northampton. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hatfield.
