Saturday's high school hockey: South Hadley wins to qualify for tourney
Chris Menard and Doug Sattler each scored a pair of goals and the South Hadley hockey team qualified for the postseason with a 5-1 win over Taconic in Holyoke on Saturday.
Spencer Nawrocki scored once for South Hadley (11-0-1) while Sattler also contributed two assists.
Joey Harris, Tom Crotty, Robert Kass and Joe Whalen were each credited with one assist.
Devin Hoagland made 17 saves for the defending state Division 3A champions.
Belchertown 6, Agawam 3 - Six different Orioles scored and four players had multi-point games to lift Orioles (6-6) at home Saturday.
Brian Derochers, Sean Kennedy, Keean Bell and Adam Messier each had a goal and an assist for Belchertown, while Joey Gallo and Tommy Daley both scored once in the victory.
Wyatt Rousseau, Luke Caney, Alex Bachand and Hogan Merritt earned assists.
Jacob Smith made 22 saves and improved to 4-0 since taking over between the pipes.
Amherst Regional 4, Central 4 - Corey Deres had two goals and one assist as the Hurricanes (4-6-2) earned a point Saturday at Orr Rink.
Luke Allen and Shelby Cutting each scored once, while Joe Gazaille and John Noonan were credited with assists.
Eddie Sablak made 35 saves for Amherst.
Turners Falls 6, Chicopee Comp 3 - Tim McMahon (one assist) and Keegan Downie (two assists) each scored a pair of goals as the Indians (4-9) won Saturday in Greenfield.
Brandon Lenois (one assist) and Trevor Peduzzi (one assist) both scored once, while Travis Holloway had two assists.
Cody Booska, Christian Sawicki and Jordan Cutting were each credited with one assist.
Jack Powers made 22 saves in net.
Cathedral 5, Coyle-Cassidy 0 - Jeff Deloria of South Hadley had an assist as the Panthers (7-3-3) cruised Saturday in Raynham.
Dominick Blad scored twice in the win, while Brendan Ashe, James Dowd and Frank Crinella (assist) had one goal each.
Freshman Adam Mercer made 20 saves for the shutout in his first varsity start.
Greenfield 5, Chicopee 5 - Cameron Merrigan netted a hat trick as the Green Wave (10-1-2) earned a draw Saturday in Holyoke.
Josh Brandl and Jourdan York-Welcome also scored once each, while Ethan Sprague, Eric Cameron, Dillon Dodge and Jake Ewell were credited with assists.
Barrett Rogalewski, a Smith Academy student, made 34 saves in net for the Green Wave.
