Easthampton girls basketball returns to postseason with win over Turners Falls
The Easthampton girls basketball team is back in the postseason for the first time since 2008.
The Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak with a 52-19 victory at home over Turners Falls on Thursday and clinched a berth in the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Tournament.
“It was nice because we had played five bad quarters of basketball, so this was a good way to end that,” said Easthampton coach Jay Fortier, whose team had lost its last two games to Franklin North leaders Mahar Regional and Athol, who are a combined 20-5 overall.
Elizabeth Whitney overcame constant triple teams and short minutes to post a game-high 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Haley Domina had nine points for Easthampton (11-3, 8-3 Franklin South).
Kristen Windoloski added eight points.
Fortier praised the play of junior Rachel Connell. “She was the floor general out there,” Fortier said. “She did a great job of keeping us on track and making sure we were all on the same page.”
