Football recruit changes direction, now headed to UMass
New University of Massachusetts coach Charley Molnar made good on his promise to convince recruits, who'd previously committed elsewhere, to go to UMass.
D'Metrius Williams, a defensive back from Virginia Beach, Va., who had previously verballed to Western Michigan, now plans to attend UMass according to his Twitter account.
Williams, a 5-foot-11, 161-pound cornerback, ran a 4.81 40-yard dash according to ESPN's recruiting coverage, which rated him a two-star recruit.
According to ESPN's scouting report, "Williams displays the athleticism and discipline to be productive as a zone scheme DB in college. Has adequate height but will need to add bulk to his frame. His lower body strength and explosiveness will need to improve to be productive at the next level. ... Overall, Williams is a smart football player. Will likely be successful in a zone scheme defense. With refinement of technique and more coverage responsibilities he could slip through the cracks at a mid-major level program."
According to EasternPAFootball.com, Byron Cooper, a running back/athlete from Philadelphia, has also committed to the Minutemen. It's uncertain whether he'd receive a scholarship or enroll as a recruited walk on.
