Hopkins Academy girls basketball defeats Athol
Emma Konieczny made 4-of-5 free throws in the closing minutes as Hopkins Academy knocked off Athol 53-51 in Hadley on Tuesday night.
Konieczny shots came with under two minutes left to seal the nail-biter between the Golden Hawks and Red Raiders. She scored a season-high 11 points, while Olivia Mathieu led all scorers with 21 points for Hopkins (7-4, 7-2 Franklin South).
Mackenzie Sullivan added nine points and eight boards while her twin sister Kate Sullivan was in double digits with 10 points.
Boys basketball
The winless Golden Hawks led 40-29 after the third quarter, but couldn't close out the victory on the road and fell to 0-11 (0-9 Hampshire West) with a 52-49 loss Monday to Athol.
Andrew Bemben had with 21 points and 13 rebounds while Satchel Teixeira added 17 points and 12 boards.
Bemben had a game-high 20 points and collected eight rebounds in the team's 60-54 loss to Mohawk on Jan. 13.
Teixeira was also in double digits with 13 points with 11 rebounds.
