Vondell Langston of Everett gives verbal commitment to UMass football
Vondell Langston of Everett reportedly has verbally committed to the University of Massachusetts football team, the start of what new coach Charley Molnar predicted last week would be an avalanche of commitments coming soon.
Langston, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker-tailback told ESPNBoston.com on Sunday that he is headed to Amherst.
"It felt good. I can finally exhale now that I know where I'm going to school, and concentrate on getting ready for next season and finishing strong in school," Langston told the website. "I just like the environment there. I went to one of their games and they treated me real good.
"When that coaching staff left it made me nervous, but then the new staff told me they were interested, too. So it took a while, but I'm feeling good."
Langston was being recruited by the staff of coach Kevin Morris before he was fired and Molnar was hired.
Langston also fulfills Molnar's pledge to put an emphasis on recruiting Massachusetts players. Everett traditionally is one of the state's elite programs.
National signing day is Feb. 1.
